Each year, the No Fear Battalion hosts the Climb to Remember in remembrance of the 2,977 victims of 9/11/2001. Participants are invited to walk or run 2,977 stairs at Allegacy Federal Credit Union in order to honor the victims and first responders present on September 11th.
Participants are encouraged to register as a team if they are participating as an organization, or may register individually. Gates will open and check-in will begin at 6:00 a.m., the Climb to Remember will begin at 6:30 a.m. Register here.

Alumni Lecture presented by Laura Elliott (’79): “Book-banning, Disinformation, and Coverups: How Historical Fiction Tackles Tough Topics”

Book-bans and disinformation, tribal-thinking and unsubstantiated innuendo, hate labels,
conspiracy theories, threats of political retribution. Author L. M. Elliott (’79) discusses the hunt
for truth and the battle for intellectual freedom during the Red Scare/McCarthyism and Cold War
Berlin, sharing history and unsung heroes from her award-winning “docudrama” novels Suspect
Red and WALLS. She’ll also share echoes between 1973 and today, previewing her
upcoming Truth, Lies, and the Questions in Between, set in the year of Watergate hearings and the struggle to ratify the ERA.
L. M. Elliott was a Washington-based magazine journalist and nonfiction author primarily covering women’s issues, and a three-time finalist for the National Magazine Award, before becoming a New York Times best-selling author of historical and biographical fiction. Her fourteen novels explore a variety of eras and are written for a variety of ages. Elliott holds a BA from Wake Forest University and a master’s in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a lifelong Virginian and history-lover.
