LGBTQ+ Center 10th Anniversary Celebration:
September 16-17, 2022

We’re thrilled to invite you home to campus to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the LGBTQ+ Center during Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, September 16-17. Alumni and friends from all class years, as well as faculty, staff and students, are invited to join us! For 10 years, the LGBTQ+ Center has provided education, advocacy and support around gender identity and sexual orientation to Wake’s students, faculty and staff. The Center has helped a generation of Deacs find a safe and affirming home away from home.

Special Collections & Archives (SCA, Z. Smith Reynolds Library) is collecting oral histories! Find additional information about the project and how to sign up below.

At Homecoming 2021, Special Collections & Archives collaborated with several student organizations to consider donating artifacts and memorabilia to the library. SCA also talked about the need to better document the experience of all students at Wake Forest and began actively collecting oral history interviews in the spring/summer 2022 with the help of undergraduate student Parker Beverly (’23), a documentary film creator.

Parker continues to increase our collection of oral histories documenting the history of underrepresented groups at Wake Forest. SCA’s goal is to not only share and celebrate alumni and student history, but to also foster new connections and community through exhibits, events and programming. Homecoming 2022 and the LGBTQ+ Center’s Anniversary weekend offer a unique opportunity to share what has already been created and also to invite new voices to join us.

Today, Wake Forest University is a more diverse community, however, this was not always the case. But, we need your voice too! As mentioned before, we would like to invite you to participate in an interview–either during Homecoming or at a later time. Homecoming interviews will take place Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 from 9a-12p in Benson 301 in 30-minute timeslots. By adding your voice to this collection, you will help record and preserve the history of the University for future generations. To register, please send your contact information to zanisht@wfu.edu and we will set up a time for you to share your story.
