Hurricane Relief

Dear fellow Wake Foresters,

If you’re like me, you’re looking forward to returning to Wake Forest for Homecoming and Reunion Weekend. It’s a time of sharing joyful memories, laughter, and fun. If you live along coastal areas in the South, however, homecoming may not have that same meaning. Americans affected by Hurricane Harvey are returning from shelters to find their home and belongings ruined by floodwaters, while others are bracing for what Irma, José and Katia have in store.

In the spirit of Pro Humanitate, we invite you to participate in an effort by Wake Foresters to help with a Hurricane Relief Gift Card Drive. During Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, we will be collecting $25 VISA/MC gift cards. These cards will be sent to vetted relief agencies who will use the cards to supply the unmet needs of hurricane survivors. (A $25 VISA or MC gift card will make an equitable distribution of cards possible.) There will be a designated collection area in the Green Room on Friday of Homecoming weekend.

As a Joplin resident who was involved in our recovery from the May 2011 Tornado, I have witnessed firsthand the relief and gratitude survivors feel when they receive support from caring folks across the country. Please help us as we respond to survivors when they need us most.

Thank you,

Jane Cage
